Breast Augmentation - Breast Procedure

Well proportionate and shapely breasts are an asset to any woman. Small breasts can be enlarged by plastic surgery called breast augmentation surgery. This is done by using breast implants. Breast augmentation is the second most common cosmetic surgery performed on women. Breast enhancement using breast implants can give a woman more proportionate shape and improve self-esteem.

Why Breast Augmentation?

  1. Lack of self-confidence and a feeling of inadequacy resulting from small breasts.
  2. Modern society has established the well-developed female breasts as an important characteristic of femininity.
  3. Emphasis on youth
  4. Increasing social consciousness
  5. More liberal and open attitude towards sexual relationship
  6. Revealing clothing fashion

You can have breast augmentation done if you want to-

    • Increase the size of small or underdeveloped breasts.
    • Reshape and enlarge breasts that have lost their shape and fullness after child-bearing or aging.
    • Create symmetry between breasts of differing shapes and size.

» How is it Done : The implant is surgically placed in a pocket located inside the breast, either behind the breast tissue or behind the breast muscle (pectoral muscle).
There are several ways in which an implant can be inserted. The most common method is through an incision just under the breast in the crease where the breast meets the chest wall. This is called an inframammary incision. The incision scar is well hidden in the skin fold or bra line. The implant may also be inserted through the nipple and areola (peri-areolar incision), or through an incision in the armpit.
» Breast Implant : Breast implants are high quality medical devises made with silicone which is a bio-compatible material that is used for many years in medicine. It is also used in artificial joint replacements, cardiac pacemakers, and syringes, in addition to hundreds of products that we come into contact with every day, including food, plastic products, clothing and even the furniture we sit on. Silicone is the best material because it is the least reactive, soft and durable. Long years of research and usage has proved them to be safe.
There is no evidence that breast augmentation bears any relationship to breast Cancer.
All breast implants are not alike. You can choose
  • Size: from less than hundred cubic centimeter to more than 500 cc. most common sizes are 250-400 cc
  • Type: Silicon filled/ saline filled- Both the implants are safe and effective. Saline implants are popular in USA and silicone in Europe and India. Any type can be used depending on patient and surgeon’s preference.
  • Shape: Round/ teardrop: Round is used more commonly.

Breast Augmentation Testimonials

I had wanted bigger better looking breasts for as long as I can remember. I was very unhappy with the way my breasts used to look. They were a regular size but the problem was that there was a bad sag to them. Every time I looked at them, my self confidence plummeted. I really hated the way I looked in clothes, especially in T-shirts. In spite of wearing under wired bras, the sag was still quite visible. I had put on a considerable amount of weight as an adolescent and then lost it all too quickly. Not only did I get stretch marks, I also lost quite a lot of the good fat from my breasts. Not a very good thing according to me.
After thinking very hard, I decided that the only course of action for me would be to opt for cosmetic surgery. Though I was quite daunted by the idea, I was still quite keen on doing something about the problem instead of thinking all my life.

I started looking up all the information that I could get on the internet. Believe me when I say that I got really boggled down with the amount of information that I could gather from there. I read as much as could. I also read about peoples ideas about fake breasts. Though there were lots of people saying lots of things, the majority of women who had undergone the operation were quite satisfied with the way they looked after the operation. Also the partners of these women were also quite happy with the way their partner now looked. I was really worried that they might look fake.

I was looking online for a good doctor and that too somebody from my city as I didn’t want to go out of station. I fixed up appointments with three doctors whose names I do not want to reveal. I had done my research about Dr. Kumar online and I was quite impressed by his credentials.

In spite of reading up about Dr.Kumar, I was still quite apprehensive the first time I met him. But after speaking to him for just five minutes I was put at ease. I spent nearly half an hour asking him different questions regarding the operation, whether the sag can be corrected, what size implants I need to achieve the look I desired, about the anaesthesia, the side effects, the healing process and finally the pricing. After we had discussed in detail and at length about each and every aspect of the surgery, we set a date for the surgery.

I had almost a week before the surgery and I had ample time to research some more and that’s what I did. There were times when I felt unsure about some aspect of the surgery or the surgery itself. I cleared my doubts by messaging Dr. Kumar. He always answered my questions as soon as possible. This helped immensely in allaying my fears. We had decided on 400cc Mentor silicon implants and I was told by Dr. Kumar that initially they will look bigger but once they settle they will look normal.

The day of the surgery arrived and i was very apprehensive which Dr. kumar could realise and immediately allayed my fears. The surgery was completed and i woke up to see a different me. I thank Dr. Kumar for all his efforts for the good result.

Thanking you !

The breast is reduced by removing a part of the mammary gland and extra skin. The nipple is normally also reduced and placed higher on the breast. This leaves a circular scar around the nipple area with a line down to the breast crease. In time, these scars will lighten and become less noticeable.

There are several different methods for the procedure. The surgeon will discuss them with you to help you choose the best option.

For young girls:
Girls, who have developed large breast at an early age, can undergo lipo-sculpture to reduce the breast and stop the growth of the mammary gland. Thus, when caught in time, breast reduction surgery with large scars can be avoided.

For men:
Excess mammary gland tissue is removed by keyhole surgery, and in some cases, combined with lipo-sculpture. Through a small incision (2cm) in the nipple area, small instruments are brought into the body which allows the surgeon to remove the mammary gland by releasing it carefully from the skin and muscle.

Risk Factor
In some cases, the feeling and sensitivity is temporarily decreased after a nipple correction. Although this may be permanent and it generally returns after a few months.

Permanent loss of feeling in the nipple, resulting in loss of the whole nipple or part of the nipple, is caused by problems with circulation. Smoking is an immediate cause. Smokers can lower their risk by stopping three weeks before surgery and three weeks after. Permanent loss of feeling and circulation problems is uncommon. In high-risk patients the surgery technique may be modified to limit these risks. In general, complications are rare and you will have many years of pleasure with your breast correction.

Recovery Period
The breasts are heavily bandaged immediately following a breast lift or breast reduction surgery. Under each bandaged breast is a drainage tube for discharge of blood and fluid. The tubes are removed after a few days.

We advise you to wear a wireless bra during the day and night for a few weeks after the surgery. Wait until after the surgery to purchase one.

The sutures are generally removed two weeks after the surgery. After a week, daily activities can be resumed, while it is best to wait three weeks with more intense work.

Liposuction Liposuction is a popular surgical procedure for removing extra fat from specific areas of body, particularly the abdomen, buttocks, thighs, arms, face, neck, flanks and chest. The procedure helps remove the accumulated fat from these areas & gives a more defined & appealing shape to the figure.
With the introduction of various refinements in the procedure of this surgery, excellent outcome in terms of final results & overall recovery time have significantly improved.
The accumulated fat which takes months to get removed with conservative methods can be removed in a sitting for the people who want to shed the extra fat in a short span of time due to reasons like marriage, job demands or busy schedules, making it difficult to follow long durations of exercises & proper dietary control.

Having said that it must be emphasized that liposuction is not a substitute for correct dietary habits and regular exercise schedules. These have their own role in controlling & maintaining the weight loss achieved after liposuction.

   The Best Candidates for Liposuction
There are broadly three main categories of people who wish to undergo this surgery.
Category – I : These are the ones with nearly normal weight.
Contrary to common perception these are the ideal candidates for liposuction.
:

They are:
      • Both men and women of normal weight who mainly want to enhance their body shape and contours.
      • People with fat deposits on the so called “trouble areas”, where exercise and diet does not seem to have any effect- like the love handles, abdomen, hips, arms.
      • People with firm elastic skin, so that when the fat is removed, a smooth appearance over skin is achieved. These people have generally near permanent results.

Category-II : Moderately overweight
These are people 20-50 percent above their ideal body weight, with fat everywhere but relatively in excess over specific body parts like abdomen, hips etc. These areas undergo liposuction to bring harmony with rest of the body. People finding it difficult to get back in shape with diet and exercise or willing to get slim in short duration for specific occasions are the preferred candidates.
Category-III : Grossly obese
People 50 percent above their ideal body weight are generally not good candidates for liposuction. These people have bulges everywhere and sometimes they suffer from obesity related conditions like high blood pressure, diabetes, and hypercholesterolemia. They want liposuction for weight reduction. This group does not benefit from liposuction even though performing the procedure is possible.
Safety: : Liposuction is not meant for losing weight from overall body. Expecting to lose more then 6-7 Kgs of weight by liposuction can be risky.
Results : Poor, because limited amount of fat that can be removed in one sitting will not give satisfactory look. Unless they change their lifestyle drastically, the fat will come back.

People wishing to undergo this surgery should be realistic with their expectations as this procedure can only enhance/shape your body contours & increase your confidence levels. It does not change your appearance altogether. It is advised that people with significant medical/heart problems should avoid this procedure as they are relatively unfit from anaesthesia point of view.
   Brief Outlook of the Surgery

» Anaesthesia : Usually general Anaesthesia is preferred for optimal comfort.
» Surgical Duration : 1-4 hours (depending on the fat removal)
» Hospitalization Time : Discharge on the same day/next day
» Stitches : Usually none
» Recovery Time : Recovery depends on the amount of fat removed and from which area. Normal daily household walking can be done with normal eating on the same day of surgery. Normal house hold work can be carried out from 2nd day onwards and joining of office work can be done from fourth day onwards.
» The Surgery : Areas of fat deposits are marked. After giving anaesthesia, a few 3-4 mm size cuts are made around the area and tumescent fluid is injected into the fat through the holes. Later with hollow metal cannulas (tubes) with holes near the tip are passed through the same holes into the fat (between the skin and the muscle). The cannulas are attached to a liposuction vacuum machine through a plastic tube. Due to the powerful suction of the machine and to and fro movement of the cannula, fat is broken down into small pieces and is sucked out into the jar attached to the machine in liquid form.

Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck) – Body Procedure
The most common part to get out of shape is the abdomen due to numerous reasons like pregnancy, weight gain or various illnesses. Getting out of shape is one of the scariest sins in today’s world. Not only is it harmful for the overall health but can get embarrassing and humiliating in one’s life. It happens because of the accumulation of fat below the skin which is excessively loose due to stretching or loss of tone of the abdominal muscles.
Thankfully there are ample options available in the field of plastic surgery. Surgeries like abdominoplasty and liposuction are now considered as healthy, approachable & affordable options. Abdominoplasty involves removing excess fat and loose hanging skin along with tightening of the lax abdominal muscles to achieve a flatter abdomen.
Anyone fulfilling one or more of the following criteria is considered to be a good candidate for abdominoplasty:
      • Following pregnancy, an abdomen with stretch marks and hanging skin fold.
      • Post caesarean section, bulging abdomen with or without hernia or a vertical scar on lower abdomen.
      • A male or female with protuberant abdomen and loose hanging fold of skin.

A Brief Outline of the Procedure

» Anaesthesia : General
» Duration of Surgery : 2-4 hours
» Stitches : Self-absorbable/ Staples – removable in 1 week
» Hospital Duration : 1-2 days
» Recovery Time : Walking and light meal same day
» Daily Routine : Combing hair, dressing, eating: On the day of surgery
» Daily Household Work : Light household work like cooking, dusting etc. after 1 week
» Light Activities : Morning walk: After 2nd  week
» Heavy work like Weight lifting etc : 4-5 months onwards
» How is it Done : Simply speaking -a linear cut is made very low horizontally over the abdomen, within the undergarment line, in the place where caesarean section scar is placed. The skin is lifted up from the underlying muscles, pulled down and excess of fat and skin is removed keeping the umbilicus (belly button) in its intact position. The final suture-line and the scar is very low set and remains hidden within the undergarments .This procedure can be combined with the liposuction procedure depending upon the case requirement for optimal results.

Planning Your Surgery-Thorough Approachhttp://www.drkumarcosmeticindia.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/star.jpg Step One : Consultation
The first interaction with Dr. Kumar will be a detailed discussion explaining the procedures, your requirements and deciding the best possible procedure that would benefit you. It would include a thorough assessment of your skin quality, amount of excess skin, the present tone of the abdominal muscles and hernial sites. Remember, a good result depends on the best possible procedure for that individual considering their parameters and not a generalized approach for all the patients.

You will be best advised and explained regarding the current status and the possible options which could benefit you from the surgery. One can see the representative clinical pictures of previous satisfied patients before deciding a procedure. One should be well prepared with their medical history (if any) at the time of consultation. This would include any information about medical conditions, drug allergies, medical treatments received, previous surgeries. Depending upon the individual one can consider combining an abdominoplasty along with liposuction of the thighs for optimal results. Routine diagnostic tests will be ordered.

http://www.drkumarcosmeticindia.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/star.jpg Step Two : Preoperative Evaluation
Once the decision to undergo surgery has been taken, patient is assessed for fitness for anaesthesia & surgery. Dr. Kumar will examine the abdomen, its measurements and clinical photographs for the medical record. The skin quality, amount of fat deposited, tone of muscles and presence of any hernia or scar will be noted. If hernia is suspected, a USG will be mandatory. The consent forms along with detailed preoperative instructions would be given.

http://www.drkumarcosmeticindia.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/star.jpg Step Three : Surgery
The patient has to report to the hospital on the day of surgery. The abdominal markings would be done in standing position before going to the operating room for better judgement of desired shape. The operation will be performed under general anaesthesia and would be pain free.

http://www.drkumarcosmeticindia.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/star.jpg Step Four : After Surgery
The patient is fully conscious soon after surgery and an abdominal binder is given over the dressings. Drains (tubes) are usually removed the next morning and the patient is usually discharged on the next day.

http://www.drkumarcosmeticindia.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/star.jpg Step Five : Recovery
The dressings would be there for around 10 days, and the abdominal binder for 4- 6 weeks. Light work can be resumed within 1-2weeks. By the 3rd-4th week, the patient is normal and can resume their normal activities. The results can be appreciated after four weeks.

Male Gynaecomastia
Large breasts in men are a common problem. It is estimated that 1/3rd of the male population experiences this problem at some stage of life. Usually, during pubertal growth and the young adult stage, one develops gynaecomastia. This obviously can become distressing, playing with the psyche of the affected individual and can become a source of embarrassment. At times, this is due to certain medication drugs or some transient hormonal imbalances, which trigger the development of breast tissue which does not always revert back on stopping the medication.
   The Surgery
In majority of the patients- a surgical procedure of excision of gland either alone or combined with a lipo-sculpture is the preferred treatment. The procedure can be done under general anaesthesia or intravenous sedation if the involved area is smaller.
A Brief Outline of the Procedure
» Anaesthesia : General / Local
» Duration of Surgery : 2-4 hours
» Stitches : Self absorbable/ Staples – removable in 1 week
» Hospital Duration : Same day discharge
» Recovery Time : Walking and light meal same day
» Daily Routine : Combing hair, dressing, eating: On the next day of surgery
» Daily Household Work : Light household work : After 1 week
» Light Activities : Morning walk: After 2nd  week
Heavy work like Weight lifting etc: 3-4 months onwards
» How is it Done : Simply speaking – a semi-circular incision is made at the areola junction to make it inconspicuous. The areola skin is lifted up from the underlying breast and excess of fibrosed/glandular breast tissue is removed from the planned areas. This procedure can be combined with the liposuction procedure depending upon the case requirement for optimal results.

Individuals who undergo significant weight loss sometimes experience loose, hanging, extra skin around the thighs and buttocks due to loss of skin elasticity. The result is an embarrassing attempt to cover the thighs and hindrance in wearing certain clothes of one’s choice. It may hamper daily activities like bathing, squatting and maintaining personal hygiene.
Many individuals who have lost a large amount of weight may experience loose, sagging, excess skin around their thighs, hips and buttocks. This skin has lost what is known as elasticity. As a result, the skin is stretched and hangs.

Sometimes, this extra, loose and flabby skin in the thighs can cause quite a bit of discomfort. It rubs when the person is walking. It can make finding clothing that fits comfortably very hard. It can even make bathing and personal hygiene difficult. And, physically it detracts from the natural shape of the thigh area. After working so hard through a diet or exercise-or perhaps after undergoing gastric bypass surgery for weight loss- it can be discouraging to look in the mirror and see all of that loose, excess, flabby or dimpled skin around the thighs and buttocks.

   The Procedure
A thigh lift at our center is performed with general anaesthesia. The procedure involves small incisions in the inner thigh and groin area. The plastic surgeon will carefully determine where to make these incisions to minimize scar visibility when you are wearing a wide variety of clothing and to meet your personal desires.

In some instances, a thigh lift also involves the area around the outer thigh and the buttocks. In these cases, the incisions are somewhat longer and may extend from the buttocks over to the abdomen and to the groin. During your pre-surgery consultation, your plastic surgeon will determine which type of thigh lift procedure will be best for you and just where the incisions will be made.

In both types of thigh lift–inner or those extending to the outer thighs and buttocks, excess skin tissue will be removed and the remaining skin will be stretched and repositioned creating a smoother and firmer contour.   RecoveryImmediately following your thigh lift, you will wear a supportive garment that will help compress the surgical area. This is very similar to an elastic girdle and will help reduce swelling and help the skin around the surgical area return to its natural tightness. Inner thigh lifts usually can be done on an out-patient basis while thigh lifts that involve the outer thighs and buttocks may require a brief hospital stay- usually just a day or so. Any discomfort that you may feel can be controlled by medications prescribed by your plastic surgeon.

Within several weeks, you’ll notice the swelling and bruising disappearing. In most cases, within five or six weeks, thigh-lift patients can resume most normal activities including exercise. In four to six months you’ll see the final results of your thigh lift with a smoother, tighter contour and more attractive appearance to your thighs. Keep in mind that each person heals at a different rate.
Potential Risks and ComplicationsAll surgery carries with it some risks, but in general, thigh lift surgery is a safe and effective solution to eliminating loose and sagging skin. In the rare event of an infection or adverse reaction to anaesthesia, your plastic surgeon can prescribe effective medications to control these situations. It is important to follow your plastic surgeon’s directions about taking prescribed medications, caring for the incision area and changing any bandages. Be sure to ask them any questions you may have regarding the recuperation process.
Common Questions about Thigh Lift Surgery

Q. Is a thigh lift covered by insurance?
In most cases a thigh lift is not covered by insurance. However, it is always best to check with your insurance carrier and to discuss insurance coverage with your plastic surgeon.

Will I be hospitalized?
If you are undergoing an inner thigh lift, you most likely will be an outpatient and will return home right after your surgery. Those having thigh lifts that involve the outer thighs and buttock areas will usually be in the hospital for just a day or two.

Q. How long will I be bruised and swollen?
You will notice bruising and swelling the first few weeks following your thigh lift. This will continually lessen as you heal. It’s important to follow your plastic surgeon’s recuperative directions and get plenty of rest during this time. In a month or so you’ll see the swelling and bruising greatly diminish if not completely disappear.

Q. Will scars be visible?
Your plastic surgeon will make incisions in areas that are hidden by the natural shape of your body. There may be some scarring depending on the extent of your thigh lift, but over time, these will fade and become almost invisible.

Fat cells can be harvested from your own body and injected as a filler to smoothen wrinkles and other problem areas. Known as autologous fat transplantation or micro-lipo injection, fat cells are removed from the abdomen, thighs, or buttocks and transferred to the problem areas of the face or elsewhere.
   Planning
The fat cells are removed using a small cannula, are then carefully prepared and injected using a small needle into an area of wrinkling or hollowness. Because these cells are your own, they will not be rejected. Although some resorption is possible, fat grafts last longer than most fillers and produce beautiful results.
   Procedures
The procedure is performed with local anaesthesia and takes30 minutes to two hours. Recovery time is rapid and most people are able to return to work on the day following the procedure. Results are visible immediately.

FAQ’s Regarding Breast Augmentation

Q. What is Breast Augmentation and how it is done ?
Breast augmentation (or Mammoplasty) is a surgical procedure to enhance the size and shape of a woman’s breast. This procedure can be done for a number of reasons: to enhance the body contour of a woman who feels her breast size is too small; to correct a difference in breast size; to correct a reduction in breast volume after pregnancy; as a reconstructive technique after breast surgery.
By inserting an implant, filled with either silicone gel or a salt-water solution (saline), behind each breast, we are able to increase a woman’s bustline by one or more bra cup sizes.
In the initial consultation, we can discuss your expectations and explain which surgical techniques are most appropriate, based on the condition of your breasts and the skin tone.
The method of inserting and positioning the implant will depend on your anatomy and our recommendation. The incision can be made in the crease where the breast meets the chest, around the areola (the dark skin surrounding the nipple) or in the armpit. Every effort will be made to assure that the incision is placed so scars will be as inconspicuous as possible.
The breast tissue and skin is lifted to create a pocket, either directly behind the breast tissue or underneath the chest wall muscle (pectoral muscle). The implants are then centered beneath the nipples.
